Prince Williamis in the Caribbean this week, but his thoughts are with the people of Ukraine asRussia’s invasionheads into its fifth week.

Prince Williamcomplimented Belizean leadership in his remarks, acknowledging, “Belize has joined many others in condemning the invasion and standing up for the principles of international law, peace and security.”

He added, “Today we think of those struggling in Ukraine and we stand with them in solidarity.”

William firstaddressed the conflictlast month, just days after Russian forces launched a large-scale invasion on Feb. 24 — the first major land conflict in Europe in decades.

In aFeb. 26 statementshared via the @KensingtonRoyal Twitter account, the Duke and Duchess wrote, “In October 2020 we had the privilege to meet President[Volodomyr] Zelenskyyand the First Lady to learn of their hope and optimism for Ukraine’s future. Today we stand with the President and all of Ukraine’s people as they bravely fight for that future.”

With NATO forces massing in the region around Ukraine, various countries have also pledged aid or military support to the resistance. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called for peace talks — so far unsuccessful — while urging his country to fight back.

Putin insists Ukraine has historic ties to Russia and he is acting in the best security interests of his country. Zelenskyy vowed not to bend.“Nobody is going to break us, we’re strong, we’re Ukrainians,“he told the European Unionin a speech in the early days of the fighting, adding, “Life will win over death. And light will win over darkness.”
